Former Nepal PM KP Sharma Oli Criticizes Current Government Following Youth-Led Protests

Kathmandu, Nepal — Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has made a public appearance following a series of youth-led protests that recently turned violent in parts of Nepal. Speaking at a press event, Oli strongly criticized the current government, alleging it came to power through what he described as “destructive and unlawful means.”

The protests, largely driven by Gen-Z activists demanding political reform and greater accountability, have gained momentum over the past weeks. While initially peaceful, recent demonstrations escalated into clashes with security forces, prompting widespread attention and concern.

Oli, the leader of the opposition CPN-UML party, used the occasion to express solidarity with peaceful demonstrators while condemning the violence. He further claimed that the current administration lacks legitimacy and was “born out of arson and instability,” a reference to recent unrest and political controversies.

Government officials have not responded directly to Oli’s remarks but have called for calm and urged citizens to express their views through peaceful and democratic means. Security remains heightened in major urban areas, as authorities monitor the situation closely.

Observers say the ongoing protests reflect a growing generational divide and frustration with the pace of political change in the country.
